About Quality Leather – Fashion & Trends in Kolkata
Linton Street is an interesting place to work. We are at number 18, and if you walk by, you can usually smell the leather from the sidewalk. It is a strong scent, but we don't even notice it anymore after all these years. Our shop is filled with different hides and skins piled up on the heavy wooden benches. We spend most of our time cutting and prepping the pieces for whatever we are making that day. Leather is tough work and it's hard on the hands, but it’s what we do. The street is narrow and sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting close to our door. We end up carrying the heavy rolls ourselves. There is a lot of dust from the sanding and the edges being finished, so we are always dusting off the tools. It’s not a very modern setup, we still use a lot of the older tools that just work better for this kind of material. We don't really have a big sign or fancy lights. People who need leather work usually find their way to us on Linton Street eventually. Most days it’s just the sound of the hammers and the occasional radio playing some old songs. We stay until the light starts to fade, then lock up and head out. It’s a quiet, steady kind of life here in the shop. We don't change much because we like the way things are done here in this neighborhood.
