Balaji Leather Creations is tucked away on Kustia Road. Number 5 is a bit easy to miss if you are not looking for it. The building has been here for a long time, and we have been working inside it for many years. There is always that specific smell of leather in the air when you walk into our space. It is a heavy, earthy scent that usually gets into your clothes by the end of a long day. We spend most of our time at the workbenches. It is not a quiet place to be. There is the sound of cutting, the hum of the machines, and people talking over the noise. Kustia Road is not the widest street, so things often get a bit cramped around here. We have piles of material in the corners and scraps on the floor most of the time. It is a real workshop, not a polished showroom. We do not have fancy carpets or glass doors. We just have the tools we need and the space to use them. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the steps until it comes back on. You meet all kinds of people in this trade. Some of the guys have been doing this since they were teenagers. We just focus on the task at hand, whether it is a small order or something bigger. The tea breaks are usually the best part of the afternoon for everyone.
