B. S. Leathers

B. S. Leathers is located at 59 Gardner Lane on the 1st Floor. Finding Gardner Lane can be a bit tricky if you aren't from around here, as it’s one of those narrow streets that doesn't see much sun. Our workshop is up one flight of stairs that are a little narrow and creaky. As soon as you open the door, you’re hit with the heavy, earthy smell of leather hides. We keep the raw materials stacked in the back and the work tables up front where the light is better. It’s a dusty place because of all the buffing and cutting we do. We use old tools that have been around for years because they still work better than the new stuff. There’s a lot of noise from the hammers and the heavy-duty sewing machines we use for the thicker skins. We don't have any fancy furniture, just some stools and the benches where we sit for hours at a time. The 1st floor at No. 59 is where we do everything from the initial sketching to the final stitching. It’s physically demanding work, and your back usually aches by the time you head home. We don't spend money on advertising or making the place look pretty. We just care about making sure the leather is cut right and the seams don't pull apart. It’s just us and the leather, day in and day out.
