Asutosh College

If you know Kolkata, you probably know where 92 S.P. Mukherjee Road is. Our college has been sitting here for a very long time, right in the heart of the city. The building has that old look that you see a lot in this part of town. It is always busy outside with the buses and people walking by. Inside the gates, it feels a bit different, though it is never really quiet. We have students coming from all over West Bengal, not just the local neighborhood. The hallways are high-ceilinged and can get a bit echoey when the classes let out. We don't really use much modern jargon here. We just do the teaching and the students do the learning. Many of the professors have been in these same rooms for decades. You can see the history in the wooden desks and the way the stairs have worn down over the years. It is a place that has seen a lot of changes in the city, but the college stays pretty much the same. During the festivals, the whole area gets even more crowded, and we have to navigate through the crowds to get to the main entrance. We keep the library stocked and the labs running as best as we can. It is a bit of a landmark for the 700026 area. People often use our building as a meeting point because everyone knows where it is. We just keep the doors open and the lights on for the next generation.
