We have been sitting here at 17, Chittaranjan Avenue for quite a long time now. If you walk past the building, you can see how the walls have aged over the years, just like the books inside. It gets pretty loud outside with the traffic, but once you step into our space, the smell of paper takes over everything else. We mostly spend our days sorting through stacks of manuscripts and dealing with printers. Some days are just about fixing the fans or making sure the lights work properly so the staff can read clearly. We don't have fancy decorations or modern furniture because that isn't really what we are about. It’s mostly just desks piled high with journals and textbooks. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a break, talking about the old days of publishing when everything was done by hand. Most of us here have been working together for years, so we know each other's moods pretty well. It isn't a high-tech office, and we still use some old-fashioned ways to keep track of things. We just try to get the books out to the shops without too many mistakes. Sometimes a box gets lost or a delivery is late, but we sort it out. Life here is simple, focused on getting the reading material ready for whoever needs it. It’s just how we operate every day and it seems to work for us.
