Ahmed Tannery Pvt Ltd is located at 10/1/1A, Topsia Road (South). If you know Kolkata, you know Topsia is where a lot of the leather work happens. We’ve been here for a long time. It’s a gritty part of town, very industrial and busy. The tannery is where the real work happens. It’s a tough environment, wet and messy, but that’s how you get the leather ready for use. We handle the raw hides and process them through all the different stages. There’s a specific smell to a tannery that you never really get used to, but you stop noticing it after a while. Our building is old, and it shows its age, but it’s sturdy enough for the machines. We have a lot of workers who have been with us for decades. It’s a family-style operation even though we are a private limited company. We don't have any marketing people or fancy titles. We just have people who know how to treat leather properly. The road outside is often crowded with trucks loading and unloading. We spend our days managing the vats and the drying areas. It’s a lot of physical labor and long hours. We just keep doing what we’ve always done. The market goes up and down, but the work in the tannery stays the same. We take pride in just getting through the day's work and seeing the leather stacked up.
