If you head down Kustia Road in Tiljala, you'll eventually run into us at number 25. Afrin Leather is a small operation, mostly just a few of us working with different types of leather all day long. Tiljala is a crowded area, and our street is no different. There are always people moving about and the sound of machines in the background. Our shop is packed tight. We have leather hides draped over racks and stacked on the floor. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room; you just walk in and we're usually right there in the middle of a job. The lighting isn't the best, so we often have to take pieces of leather out to the doorway to see the true color in the natural light. It’s a lot of physical work, moving the heavy skins around and checking them for marks or flaws. We get a lot of dust from the street coming in, so we’re constantly cleaning off the top layers of our stock. We’ve been at this address for a while and the locals know us by name. It’s not a fancy setup, just a practical space where we can get the work done. We drink a lot of tea and try to keep up with the orders that come in. Most evenings, we’re still here finishing up while the street outside starts to quiet down a little bit.
