Adiba Leather Exports is found on the first floor of No. 7/3-b Miajan Ostagar Lane. It’s one of those narrow lanes where you really have to know where you’re going to find us. Once you get up to the first floor, the first thing you notice is the heavy scent of tanned leather. It’s a smell that stays with you all day. We work in a space that’s packed with hides and finished leather pieces. There are benches where the workers sit to do the fine handwork, and larger tables for sorting the skins. We’ve been doing this for years, and the routine hasn't changed much. Miajan Ostagar Lane is always bustling with people moving carts and bikes squeezing past. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting larger shipments out of here, but we’ve managed it for a long time. The lighting isn't the best, so we use a lot of desk lamps to see the details of the leather. We don't spend money on fancy signs or office furniture. Most of our furniture is old wood that’s been scuffed by leather tools over the decades. It’s a traditional way of working, even if it feels a bit old-fashioned to some. We just focus on the quality of the hide and getting the exports ready on time. It’s a tough business, but we know our way around a piece of leather and we just keep at the work.
