Up here in Halkarni, things move a bit slower than in the big cities like Kolhapur. Our college is a major part of the village life. Most of the students come from the farms and small houses nearby. They walk or ride their cycles to get here. The air is a bit fresher, but the work is just as hard. We have a simple building that serves the purpose. It’s not anything you’d see in a magazine, just stone and mortar that’s seen a lot of monsoons. Inside, the classrooms are plain. We don't have much in the way of high-tech gadgets, but we have enough to get the lessons done. The staff knows most of the students by name, and we usually know their parents too. It’s that kind of place. During the harvest season, things get a bit quiet because family comes first around here. We understand that. We spend our days handling the registers and making sure the exams are set. It’s a quiet life, mostly. We have a small canteen where everyone gets their tea and snacks. The talk is usually about the crops or local news. We don't put on any acts. We are just a local college trying to give the kids in this corner of Maharashtra a chance to study. It’s honest work, and we’ve been doing it for years without much fuss. We just keep our heads down and get the job done every single day, seeing the seasons change.
