People around Hatkangale know where we are, just near Pethvadgaon in Minche. It’s a quiet spot. Every morning, the school bell rings and kids come in from all the nearby villages in Kolhapur. Most of them walk or take the local bus. It gets a bit dusty in the summer months but we have some trees around the playground that give good shade during lunch breaks. This place has both the school part and the junior college, so you see big kids and small ones all in the same area. The building isn't brand new or anything, it's got some marks on the walls and the paint is peeling in a few spots, but it feels like home to us. We’ve been here in this part of Maharashtra for a long time now. Usually, the staff room is a mess of papers and half-drunk tea cups because there’s always something to mark or a form to fill out. Parents come by often to talk about their children's marks or just to see how things are going. We don’t have fancy stuff here, just classrooms, some blackboards that need a good scrub, and a place for the students to play. It’s a simple life in Minche. We start early when the air is still a bit cool and finish up before the afternoon heat gets too bad. That's just how things go here every single day of the week for all of us.
