About Jay Ganesh English Medium School – Education in Kolhapur
Down here in Malvan, things move a little slower than in the big cities. Our school sits right in the middle of it all. Most of us who work here have grown up in this area, so we know the families and the local shops pretty well. The school building isn't huge, but it fits all the desks and benches we need. You can often smell the salt in the air when the wind blows the right way. The kids come in wearing their uniforms, looking all neat in the morning, though by the time they head home, there's usually some dirt on their knees from playing. We spend our days going through the English textbooks and helping with math problems. It gets quite loud when the rain hits the roof during monsoon season, and sometimes we have to shout a bit to be heard over the downpour. We don't have fancy gadgets in every room, just the basics like blackboards and charts on the walls. It’s a practical setup for the kids in 416606. During the breaks, the playground is a mess of shouting and running, which is how it should be. We have a small office where the mail comes in and where we keep all the student files in metal cabinets. Most of the kids here speak Marathi at home, so learning English is a big step for them. We see them trying hard, and that's enough for us to keep going every day.
