Shriram English Medium School

You can find us at Post Navi Pundi, which is a small area in Palus, near Sangli. We’ve been running this English medium school for the local families here for several years now. It started because parents in the village wanted their children to learn English without having to travel all the way into the bigger cities like Sangli every day. Our building is a basic structure, painted simply, sitting right in the middle of the local landscape. We have a small playground where the kids play cricket or run around during their lunch break. It’s not a massive field, just a patch of ground that gets a bit dusty in the summer. The classrooms have big windows to let in the light, and we keep the walls decorated with drawings the students have made. We aren't a big corporate school with buses and high-tech gadgets. Most of the children walk here from their homes in Navi Pundi. Our teachers are mostly from the surrounding areas too, so they understand the local way of life. We have our daily assembly in the morning, then it's straight to the lessons. Sometimes the goats from the nearby farms wander close to the fence, which the younger kids find funny. It’s a very grounded place. We just try to provide a decent environment where the kids can pick up their ABCs and grow up alongside their friends in the village. It is a quiet, steady life here.
