Shri Mahalaxmi Mahila Gruh Udyog

The Shri Mahalaxmi Mahila Gruh Udyog is located on the 2nd Lane of Shahupuri in Kolhapur, not too far from B T College. We are a group of women who work together here to make various items, mostly food stuff that people use in their kitchens every day. It started because we wanted a way to work and help our families. Our space at 597 E Ward is often filled with the sound of chatting and work being done. It isn't a factory with big machines or anything like that. Instead, it is more like a large kitchen where everyone has their own task to finish. We follow the old ways of making things because that is how we were taught by our mothers. Some days are very busy, especially when there is a festival coming up and everyone in Kolhapur wants specific snacks or supplies. We don't have a big office or a marketing team. Most people find us because they live nearby or heard about us from a neighbor. It can get a little messy when we are in the middle of a big batch, but that is just how it goes with hand-made work. We take pride in staying busy and keeping this small industry going year after year. It feels good to have a place in the community where we can all come together and be productive. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
