Iit Kanpur - Design Programme

Our office is located within the Indian Institute Of Technology campus here in Kalyanpur. The Design Programme is tucked away in its own corner. It’s a place where there are always models and sketches lying around on the tables. We have a lot of tools and machines that people use to build stuff for their classes. It’s not a quiet place most of the time because someone is always cutting something or using a 3D printer. The building has that old institutional smell, a mix of paper and workshop grease. We spend our mornings setting up the studios and making sure the supplies are stocked up for the day. Students are usually here late into the night working on their projects. We see a lot of coffee cups left behind on the benches. Kanpur can get very hot, so the fans are always on full blast during the afternoon. It’s a bit of a walk from the main gate, so most people use bicycles to get around the campus. We have a small staff keeping the administration side of things moving. It’s mostly about paperwork and making sure the labs are safe for everyone. We don’t really do big meetings; we just talk over the desks while we work. It’s a practical environment. Sometimes we go out to the canteen nearby to get some snacks when the hunger hits. It’s just regular work in a place that’s always busy with new ideas and prototypes.
