Banaras veg restaurant

We’ve been here at Birhana Road for a good while now, right near the Peepal Wali Kothi. It’s a busy spot in Nayaganj and things get pretty loud outside with all the traffic and people moving about. We just focus on getting the food out on time because most people coming in are in a hurry. The kitchen is small but we keep it moving. It’s mostly just us trying to make sure the vegetables are fresh every morning. Sometimes the delivery guys get stuck in the narrow lanes around here, which is just how Kanpur is. We don't have anything fancy, just some tables and chairs that have seen better days. My uncle started this place because he liked to cook for people and it just stayed in the family. We open up early to prep and usually stay until the dinner rush dies down. It's a lot of work, honestly. The floors need scrubbing constantly because of the dust from the road. We get a mix of regulars who have been eating here for years and some new faces who just happen to be passing through Nayaganj. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are. If you’re looking for a quiet place, this isn’t really it, but the food is honest and we try our best not to keep anyone waiting too long for their thali.
