Kendriya Vidyalaya

Our school is situated near the HPBOSE office in Dharamshala. Being up here in the 176213 area means we get some pretty nice views of the mountains on clear days. Kendriya Vidyalaya is a familiar name to most people, and this branch is no different. The air is usually a bit cooler up here than down in the plains. The school building sits on a bit of a slope, like most things in Dharamshala. We have a mix of students from all sorts of backgrounds. Many are children of people working in government jobs nearby. The routine is very steady. We follow the usual calendar and the bells ring at the same time every single day. Inside the classrooms, you will find the typical wooden desks and blackboards. We don’t have any of those high-tech screens in every room, just the basic tools for learning. During the winter, it can get a bit chilly in the hallways, so everyone wraps up in their sweaters. The staff room is usually buzzing with talk about lesson plans or what happened over the weekend. We have a decent sized outdoor space where the kids do their morning assembly and physical education. It’s a practical environment for education. We don’t try to make things sound more impressive than they are. It’s just a school where teachers teach and kids learn in the hills. The steps leading up to the main entrance are a bit steep, so we tell everyone to watch their footing.
