Kendriya Vidyalaya here in Bhanala is situated right in the Kangra area. It’s one of those schools that many people in this part of Himachal know about. Being up here, the weather can be a bit cold in the mornings, so the students usually arrive bundled up in their sweaters. The school building is simple and looks like most government-run schools you’ve seen before. We have a courtyard where everyone gathers for the morning assembly. It’s a very routine-driven place. We follow the standard board requirements and the teachers spend their time at the blackboards. There isn't much in the way of fancy decorations on the walls, just the usual maps and charts. The view of the hills from the school grounds is actually quite nice, though we probably take it for granted since we see it every day. The students come from all sorts of backgrounds, and the buses bring in quite a few from further out. We have a small playground where the kids play football or just run around. It can get a bit muddy when it rains, but nobody seems to mind too much. It’s a honest place where the focus is just on the lessons and getting the kids ready for their next step in life. The staff room is where we sit and have our lunch between classes, usually talking about the day’s work and drinking plenty of hot tea to stay warm.
