Aadharshila School is situated up on Uppar Punner Road, which is near Bhawarna in the Palampur area of Kangra. It’s a really nice part of the state because of the views of the mountains on clear days. The road up here can be a bit steep and narrow in some places, especially after it rains. The school building is designed to handle the hill weather, so it feels very sturdy and solid. We have a few different sections for the younger children and the older kids. The playground isn't perfectly flat because of the mountain terrain, but the kids don't seem to mind it at all. Most of the staff comes from the nearby villages and they walk or take the local bus. We start the day with a morning assembly in the open courtyard. You can often see the clouds moving over the peaks while we are standing there. The classrooms are basic but they stay fairly warm during the cold winter months. We have a small library where the books are a bit worn out from so many children using them. It’s quiet up here compared to the main town of Palampur. Sometimes the electricity goes out if there’s a big storm, but we just carry on with the lessons using the windows for light. Parents come by for meetings and we usually sit in the small office near the main entrance. There’s a lot of green trees and bushes growing around our boundary walls.
