Hems Delicious Roof Top Restaurant

We are up on the roof of the Hem Guest House in Jodhpur. It’s located in Daftariyon Ka Mohalla, right in the heart of Moti Chowk. If you know the area, we are quite close to the Keshariya Nath Jain Temple. Being on a rooftop means you have to climb some stairs, but once you’re up here, you can see the blue houses of Jodhpur spread out. It’s not a fancy place with elevators or air conditioning everywhere. It’s mostly open air. We have some tables and chairs set up where people can sit. It gets a bit windy sometimes, and we have to chase down napkins. The kitchen is small and we all work pretty close together. We get a lot of travelers staying in the guest house downstairs, but people from the neighborhood come up too. Jodhpur is a busy city, but up here it feels a little further away from the noise of the scooters in the narrow lanes below. We don’t have a big menu or anything complicated. We just cook what we know. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we’re too busy most days to get to it. It’s just a simple spot to sit and look at the city while you have something to eat. It is honest work and we like seeing the sunset from here.
