Swati Stone

We've been here at Plot No. F-124 in the Riico Industrial Area for quite some time now. People around Jhalrapatan usually know where the Growth Center is, and that's exactly where you'll find Swati Stone. It’s just a regular yard where we handle the stone work day in and day out. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. It’s mostly just us working with the slabs and making sure things get loaded onto the trucks properly. Most days are busy, especially when a big order comes through. The area is pretty industrial, so there’s always noise from the machines nearby. We keep things pretty simple here. If someone needs stone, they come by the plot and talk to us. We try to keep things moving as fast as we can. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting and moving heavy pieces, but it's what we do. We’ve stayed in this same spot for a while because it works for us. The location in Jhalrapatan is convenient for the local transport. You might see us out there in the heat most afternoons. We don't spend much time on the computer or writing things down, we just focus on the stone itself. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living. Nothing too complicated about it. We’ve seen the industrial area change a bit over the years, but our plot stays pretty much the same. It's dusty and loud but it's home for us during the day. We usually wrap things up when it gets dark and the trucks stop coming. It's a long day but we don't mind the routine much.
