Satyram Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited is based over at Phoolchandra Yadav’s place in Chandrapura, Ajaypur. It’s a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the main town, but we like it here. It’s where the actual work happens. We spend a lot of time out in the fields or sitting around the kitchen table discussing the next steps for the collective. It’s not a fancy operation. We have some files and a laptop that works most of the time. The soil around Ajaypur is okay, but it takes effort to get a good yield. We all grew up farming, so it’s second nature to most of us. We decided to form this company to make things a bit more official. There’s a lot of paperwork that comes with it, which none of us really like. But it’s necessary. We try to keep it simple. If someone has a problem with their seeds or their tools, they come here. We talk it through. Sometimes we disagree, but that’s just how it is when you have a lot of people involved. We’ve been at this address for a while now. It’s home. The air is fresh and the work is hard. That’s all there is to it. We just keep going, season after season, trying to do right by the land and each other. We take it as it comes. Usually, the days start early and end when the sun goes down.
