Century Papers

Century Papers is over at 316 on Jain Hostel Road in Sanganer. Sanganer is a place where you’ll find a lot of people working with paper and cloth, and we are right in the middle of it. Our unit is number 316. The road outside is usually busy with carts and small trucks. It can get quite dusty, but that’s just how it is in this part of Jaipur. Our workspace is a mix of an office and a small warehouse. We have piles of paper stacked up against the walls almost everywhere you look. The smell of paper and ink is something you notice right away. It’s a very simple setup with stone floors and basic furniture. We don’t have any air conditioning, just some ceiling fans that stay on all day to help with the heat. A few of us work here, checking the stock and keeping track of the orders. Most of our work is done by hand or on an old computer. We’ve been in this location for many years and know everyone on the street. It’s a community of small businesses. We don’t have a big sign to attract attention. People who need us usually know where the Jain Hostel is and find their way from there. It’s a lot of manual work, and the days can be long when we are busy. We just try to keep things moving and make sure our work is finished before we head home.
