My Kitchen

My Kitchen is right here in Indore, tucked into Scheme 54 on A B Road. If you know where the Bank of Baroda is near the Apoorti Bazar, then you’ve probably walked past us a dozen times without thinking much of it. Vijay Nagar is always loud and there is always something going on outside our door. We’ve been at Aa/14 for a while now, just doing what we do every single day. The kitchen gets pretty hot in the afternoons, especially when the stoves have been going since eight in the morning. We don’t have a fancy menu or any of those trendy decorations you see in the new places downtown. It is just a lot of stainless steel, some heavy pots, and bags of flour stacked against the back wall. Mostly we are just busy chopping vegetables and making sure the floor stays dry so nobody slips. The lunch rush can be a bit of a mess, with everyone shouting orders and the sink filling up with dishes faster than we can wash them. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place where people get food when they are hungry. Sometimes the delivery guys wait outside on their bikes and we chat with them while the bags are being packed up. It is a lot of hard work and our hands usually smell like onions by the time we head home.
