Saikot Farmers Producer Company Limited

Out in Block Saikot, Churachandpur, we set up Saikot Farmers Producer Company Limited. It’s registered at Singlet Vaiphei’s house, who is Jamkholamvaiphei’s son. It’s a real family and community thing here. We are just a bunch of local farmers who decided that working as a single group was better than everyone doing their own thing and struggling. Churachandpur has good soil if you know how to treat it. Most of us have been farming since we were kids, following our fathers into the fields. We don't have any fancy mission statements or glossy brochures. Our main concern is just making sure the crops get harvested and sold so everyone can pay their bills and keep their kids in school. The office isn't much to look at, just a place for us to gather and keep our records straight. Some days it is just about figuring out who needs help with their harvest or where we can get a better price for the corn or whatever else is growing that season. It is hard work, and your back usually hurts by the end of the day, but it’s what we know. We are just regular people from the Saikot area trying to keep our farming tradition alive. It’s about the soil, the rain, and hoping for a good season every year. Sometimes things go well, sometimes they don't, but we stay at it together and hope for the best for our neighbors too. It takes a lot of patience to work the land here.
