If you know the Kalinagar area, you probably know where we are. We are the Barak Organic Farmer Producer Company. We chose that name because the river is so important to everything we do here. Our focus is on organic farming, mostly because the land here is so good and we don't want to ruin it with too many store-bought sprays. It’s a group effort, with a bunch of us from the local area putting our resources together. We aren't corporate people at all. Most of us have dirt under our fingernails most of the week. Kalinagar is a busy place in its own way, and we try to keep our little company running smoothly despite the usual problems with electricity and transport. Sometimes we have too much produce and not enough trucks, and other times it’s the opposite. That’s just the way farming goes. We don't have a big mission statement or anything like that. We just want to grow healthy food and make sure the farmers get paid what they deserve. It’s a simple goal, but it takes a lot of meetings and paperwork to keep it all legal and official with the authorities. It’s just us, working the land like we always have. It isn't much, but it’s what we do.
