Periyar Meadows

We are located on Thekkady Road, 685509. It’s the main way people get to the sanctuary and the forest area around here. Our place is surrounded by a lot of greenery and trees, which is nice for the eyes, but it also means we are always fighting off bugs and keeping the gardens from overgrowing into the paths. The air here is a bit cooler than down in the plains, so it's a bit of a relief for people coming from the cities. We have a few rooms and a small area where guests can eat. The staff lives nearby in the surrounding villages, so they know all about the local trails and the best times to see the wildlife. We don’t have a lot of fancy amenities or high-tech gadgets. It’s more of a place for people who want to be close to nature without a lot of extra fuss or noise. The building itself is simple and fits in with the trees around it. We spend a lot of our time making sure the gravel paths are clear and the rooms are ready for the next group of tourists. Sometimes the electricity goes out when there is a big storm, but we have some backups to keep the lights on. It’s a quiet life for the most part, unless it's the peak tourist season when the road gets busy. We just do our chores, talk to the guests, and watch the mist come off the hills in the morning. It isn't a resort, just a practical spot.
