Hotel Sopanam Heritage

We are situated at East Nada, which is a very busy part of the town because it leads right up to the temple area. There is always a lot of activity here, especially very early in the morning when the pilgrims start moving around. You can hear the bells and the chanting from the street if you listen closely. The building is an older style, which is why we have heritage in the name, but it’s mostly just a traditional local house that was turned into a hotel. We don't have elevators or anything like that, so you have to walk up the stairs to get to the rooms. The floors are made of stone and they stay cool even when it’s hot outside in Kerala. We have a lot of regular guests who come every year for the festivals. The rooms are quite simple, usually just wooden beds and a small cupboard for clothes. We don't serve big meals here but there are plenty of small tea shops and places to eat just a few steps away in East Nada. The staff is mostly local people who have lived here their whole lives. It gets very crowded during the peak season and the noise from the crowds can be quite loud, but that is part of being so close to the temple. It’s a honest place for people who are here for their prayers and need a spot to stay.
