About P. S. Engineering Works – Engineering in Howrah
Down here at No. 65 Natabar Paul Road, it is mostly about metal and grease. Kadamtala is a busy spot, so there is always noise from the street mixing with the sound of our lathes. We do a lot of small repair jobs and custom welding when someone brings in a broken part. It's not a clean place, your hands will get black if you touch anything, but that's engineering for you. We have some old machines that still run better than the new stuff if you treat them right. The shop is tucked away, so you have to look for the gate. Some days we are buried in iron scraps and others we are just waiting for a specific tool to arrive. We don't have a big office or anything, just a desk in the corner with a calendar from three years ago still hanging there. People from around Kadamtala know us for fixing things that others say are too far gone. It takes a bit of patience to get the measurements exact, and sometimes we have to redo a weld if it doesn't look solid enough. It’s hard work on the back, especially when it’s humid. We just keep the doors open and get through the pile of work orders. There is no secret to it, just keeping the tools oiled and the scrap metal organized. Usually, there is some tea sitting around and a lot of iron filings on the floor. It is just a regular workshop doing regular metalwork.
