EUREKA ENGINEERING WORKS

If you head down to Shanpur in the Shibtala area of Dasnagar, you will find EUREKA ENGINEERING WORKS. We are tucked away in Howrah, West Bengal, which is a place known for these kinds of workshops. The air here always smells a bit like metal and grease. Our building is an old one, with high ceilings and heavy doors that have seen better days. We start early before the sun gets too hot, usually around eight in the morning. Most of the guys live nearby, so they walk or cycle to work. The floor is always covered in some kind of scrap or shavings from the machines we use. It is a loud environment, with the constant humming and clanking of tools, but it is the sound of work being done. In the rainy season, the roof leaks a little in the corner, so we have to move the equipment around to keep it dry. We spend a lot of time checking things over and making sure the parts are right. Lunch is usually a quick break with some rice and dal brought from home. We sit on the wooden benches outside for a few minutes of fresh air before heading back in. The work is hard on the hands and the back, but we have been doing it this way for a long time. People in Howrah know where we are if they need something made from iron or steel. It is just regular daily life for us here in Shibtala.
