Shanti Engineering Works

Shanti Engineering Works is at No. 73- A in Khatir Bazar Lane. This is a real working area. There is always the sound of metal and machines from the shops around us. Our place is no different. It’s a workshop, really. We have our tools and benches laid out. It’s not the cleanest place because that’s the nature of engineering. There’s grease and metal shavings around. We spend our days fixing things and making parts. The lane is narrow, so getting trucks in for pickups is a struggle. We’ve been in Khatir Bazar for years and know all the other owners. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. If you come by, you’ll find us in the back with our hands dirty. The building is sturdy but old. We don't care how it looks as long as the machines are running. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just take the work as it comes and try to finish it on time. It’s a loud, busy environment. Most customers are locals who know our work. The smell of hot metal feels like home. Our machines aren't the newest, but they get the job done. We don't have an office with air conditioning. We just have a small corner with a table and plastic chairs for when a customer wants to sit down and talk about a drawing. Often, we’re shouting over the noise of the machines just to hear each other.
