About Chaudhuri Forging And Engineering Works – Engineering in Hooghly
Our workshop, Chaudhuri Forging And Engineering Works, is situated at Station Rally in South Dankuni. It’s right in the heart of the industrial belt. Being near the station means the ground sometimes shakes a little when the heavy freight trains go past. The building itself is a large, open-sided structure so we get some air moving through while we work. It’s a loud place. Between the hammers and the forging equipment, there isn’t much room for quiet conversation. We wear heavy boots and clothes that we don’t mind getting dirty, because everything here is covered in a fine layer of soot and metal dust. South Dankuni is a place where people work hard, and our shop is no different. We have a small wooden cabin in one corner where we keep the drawings and the phone. It’s the only place that’s somewhat quiet. The roof is made of corrugated sheets and you can really hear the rain when it pours down. We’ve been at this location for many years, and the neighbors are all doing similar kinds of engineering or repair work. It’s not a place for visitors to come and look around; it’s a place for making things. We start our shift while it’s still dark and usually don't finish until the sun is well down. It’s a tough environment, but there is a lot of pride in the things we build and fix here. Most of the guys here have been with us for a long time.
