Narains

We are up on the upper ground floor of Grand Mall, which is Shop No 23/24. It’s right near the Bristol Hotel on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, so the traffic outside is almost always heavy. Being in a mall means our day follows a very specific schedule, starting with the security checks in the morning. We spend a lot of time just arranging the items on the shelves and making sure the shop looks decent. It can get a bit lonely during the middle of the week when the mall is quiet, but it picks up quite a bit on the weekends. We often see people who are staying at the hotel next door just wandering in to see what we have. MG Road is always a bit of a mess with construction and cars, but once you get inside the Grand Mall, it’s much calmer. We just keep to our routine at Narains, checking the inventory and chatting with the other shop owners on this floor. It’s a lot of standing around and waiting sometimes, mixed with busy bursts when a group of people comes in all at once. The air conditioning is always humming in the background, which is a relief from the humidity outside. We don't have a big team, so we just take turns handling whatever needs to be done, from cleaning the glass to updating the records in the back room.
