Our small office for Padmanabha Farmer Producer Company Limited is in Jalalpur, right near Ghosi. Anjani Yadav is the one who handles the day-to-day stuff here. It’s a basic setup because we spend most of our time out in the dirt anyway. We formed this group to help the local farmers get their supplies without having to travel too far or pay crazy prices. It’s tough work and nobody gets rich doing it, but it keeps the community going. Sometimes we have problems with the electricity or the water, but we just deal with it. People come by Jalalpur to drop off their paperwork or ask about the new seeds. We don’t have any fancy posters or big signs. Just the name and a place to sit. It’s mostly about the crops like wheat or whatever else is in season. We try to stay organized but with so many people involved it gets a bit messy. Anjani keeps the ledger and we talk about the market rates. It’s just local people trying to make a living off the land. The sun beats down on the roof and it gets stuffy inside, but we stay until the work is done. It’s a simple life and the company is just a tool for us to use so we aren’t at the mercy of the big buyers. There is no magic to it, just keeping the farm going.
