Indu Granites

We are based at No. 39 Anna Nagar in Pallapalayam, which is near Kanjikovil. It’s a quiet enough area most of the time, away from the big city noise. Our yard is filled with granite that we’ve brought in from various places. We spend the day checking the quality and making sure everything is stacked safely on the racks. It’s easy to get hurt if you’re careless with stone this heavy, so we take our time. We have a small crew here, mostly people who live nearby in the village. We start early, while the air is still cool and the birds are out. By noon, the sun is beating down on the granite slabs and they get quite hot to the touch. We usually take a long break then to eat and rest. Our office is just a small shack with a tin roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains. We don't have fancy brochures or a showroom. If someone wants to see what we have, they just walk around the piles with us in the dirt. We’ve got different colors and thicknesses depending on what the quarries sent us. We try to keep things organized, but in a stone yard, there’s always a bit of a mess. People from the surrounding villages come by when they are building a new house or a wall. We talk about the stone and the price. It’s a slow, steady life.
