We’ve been on Welington Island for a long time now in the Paul Abrao Building on Subramanian Road. Paul Abrao Agencies Pvt Ltd is right in the heart of the port area, which makes sense for what we do. The building has our name on it, which is nice, but inside it’s just a normal workplace. It gets very humid here being so close to the water, so the fans are always on full blast. You can often hear the ships in the distance or the cranes moving at the docks. The office is full of people who have been here for decades. We have old desks and some filing cabinets that are a bit rusty at the bottom. We mostly deal with the agencies side of things, helping out with whatever the ships need when they come into Kochi. It involves a lot of back-and-forth with the port authorities. There is usually a lot of paperwork scattered around, and we drink a lot of coffee to stay sharp. It’s a quiet place in some ways, but there is always a bit of an urgent feel when a ship is about to dock. We don't have any corporate art or anything like that. Just a few photos of vessels we’ve worked with over the years. It’s a solid place to work, and we all know our roles well. We just take it one day at a time, handling the arrivals and departures.
