Cochin Port Trust

You will find us at Cochin Port Trust, right at the North End of Welington Island in Kochi. It’s a unique place to work because you’re surrounded by water and the smell of the sea air. The buildings here have been around for a long time and you can really feel the age of the place when you walk through the halls. We have a lot of different departments working out of various rooms across the site. It’s a large area to cover, so people are often moving between buildings or going down to the docks to check on things. It’s not a modern glass-and-steel office; it’s more of a practical, lived-in space with heavy doors and old wooden furniture. We deal with the ships and the cargo that comes through the harbor every day. There is always a lot of noise from the cranes and the trucks moving containers, but you get used to it after a week or two on the job. The weather can be a bit damp, especially during the monsoon, and the salt air tends to rust metal things if you aren't careful. We just keep things running the best we can through the seasons. There isn't much flash to the way we do things here. We just follow the schedules and handle the permits. It’s a busy environment but we try to keep a steady pace. Most of the staff have lived in Kochi for years and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
