Alleppey Co Ltd

Being out here on Welington Island is different from the main city. Alleppey Co Ltd has been at this Pb No.511 spot for a long time. You can smell the salt in the air and the dampness from the water nearby. It’s quiet in some parts but very noisy near the docks. We deal with cargo and shipping things out. The office isn't anything special to look at. Just some old desks and a lot of logbooks. We spend a lot of time waiting for ships or checking on what’s coming in. Sometimes the rains make everything damp, and we have to be careful with the documents. We know the guys who work the cranes and the others who manage the gates. It’s a small community in a way. Lunch is usually something quick brought from home. We don't have many visitors except for the occasional driver or agent. The ceiling fans hum all day long. It gets quite hot in the summer, and the breeze from the sea doesn't always reach inside. We just keep track of the boxes and the containers. It's practical work that needs doing. Sometimes we stay late when a shipment is behind schedule. The island feels quite isolated once the sun goes down and the main shift ends. We’ve got our routine down and we just stick to it for years now. It works for us.
