Don Bosco School is located in Vaduthala, right here in Cochin. It’s a place that feels very much like a part of the neighborhood. We have the backwaters not too far away, and the air always feels a bit damp and salty. The school building is quite large, with plenty of room for the kids to move. We spend a lot of time out on the grounds. In Cochin, the rain can start at any minute, so we’re always prepared to move things inside quickly. The hallways are long and have that specific school smell of floor cleaner and old paper. We have a lot of history in Vaduthala. People around here have been sending their kids to us for a long time. It’s not a fancy place with high-tech gadgets in every corner, but we have what we need to get the kids through their lessons. The teachers are mostly locals who know the families well and live nearby. During the festivals, things get a bit more lively with decorations, but usually, it’s just the steady sound of lessons and the bell ringing every forty minutes. We keep the gates open in the afternoon for the kids to head home, and then it’s just the staff cleaning up for the next day. It’s a simple, honest way to run a school and we’ve been doing it for years now without much fuss or noise.
