Poompatta Montessori School

Our little school is tucked away on the Vytila - Thammanam Road. It’s a bit of a climb through the traffic sometimes to get here, but once you’re inside, it’s all about the kids. We started Poompatta Montessori because we wanted a place in Ernakulam that felt like a home, not a big institution. The rooms are filled with wooden toys and little chairs that we have to move around every single day to make space. Sometimes the kids draw on the walls when we aren't looking, but that’s just part of it. We spend a lot of our time just watching them figure out how to tie their shoes or pour water without spilling. The backyard has a little space for them to run, though it gets muddy when it rains. We don't have a big marketing team; most parents just hear about us from their neighbors. The staff here are mostly local folks who have been with us for years. We make tea in the small kitchen and talk about the day’s plans before the parents start dropping the children off. It’s a loud, happy place most of the time. We try to keep things simple and honest. There’s always a stray crayon under a shelf somewhere. It’s just a normal school where we do our best for the little ones in the neighborhood. We usually close up around four and head home ourselves.
