Hmt Educational Society High School

Hmt Educational Society High School is right in the middle of the HMT Colony in Kalamassery, Ernakulam. Because it’s an industrial area, the school has a very specific feel to it. Most of the students come from the families who live and work in the colony or the nearby parts of Kalamassery. The campus has a lot of open space, which is nice, but it takes a lot of effort to keep the grounds maintained. The buildings are sturdy and have that classic institutional look from a few decades ago. You can often hear the distant sounds of the industry nearby, mixed with the shouting of kids on the playground. We have a big gate at the entrance and a long driveway. Inside, the corridors are wide, and the classrooms have high ceilings to help with the Kerala heat. It’s a busy place with a lot of history. We spend a lot of time organizing the daily schedules and making sure the classrooms are ready. The staff room is usually a mess of books and tea cups, which is how it usually goes in a busy high school. We don't have any flashy marketing or big billboards. People in the colony just know us because we’ve been here for so long. It is a practical, working-class school where we just focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the kids are doing their work. It’s just a normal part of life here in Kalamassery.
