Kumar Hair Cutting Saloon

Our shop is right on the Main Road in Hirapur, Dhanbad. It’s a busy stretch of road where everything seems to be happening at once. We’ve been here at Kumar Hair Cutting Saloon for many years, watching the city change around us. The building itself is nothing fancy, just a solid place to work. Inside, we have our mirrors lined up and the chairs are always ready. The floor is made of stone which stays cool even when it’s boiling outside in Dhanbad. I keep the scissors sharpened every morning before the first customer arrives. Usually, it’s the local shopkeepers who come in first, followed by the commuters. We have a small TV in the corner that’s usually on a news channel or showing a match. It gives people something to look at while they wait. The main road is always dusty, so I have to wipe down the counters multiple times a day. We don't use any fancy language here; you just tell me how much you want off the top and I get to work. It’s the kind of place where you can relax for twenty minutes and not worry about anything. I enjoy the rhythm of the work. Every head of hair is a little different, but the goal is always the same. Just a clean cut and a quick shave before the customer heads back into the Hirapur crowd. I've been cutting hair here since the road was half as wide as it is now.
