Chahat Hair Dressing Saloon

Down in Phularibad, right on the Main Road in Jharia, is where you will find us. Dhanbad is a place that stays busy with all the mining and stuff going on, so there is always a layer of coal dust on the windows that we have to wipe off every single day. The shop is called Chahat, and it is a simple hair dressing saloon for the local men and kids. We have a couple of large mirrors that take up most of one wall. The chairs have been repaired a few times over the years with some tape on the armrests, but they are still comfortable enough for a twenty-minute trim. We don't go in for anything fancy here. We just have our combs, our razors, and the usual powders and creams. The sink in the back sometimes drips a little bit, but we put a bucket under it. When it gets really busy on Sunday mornings, the shop gets full of people talking and the smell of shaving soap. We know a lot of the families around Jharia because they have been coming to this same spot for years. It is just a regular part of the neighborhood where people come to look a bit neater before they go to work or a wedding. We stay open until the street lights come on and then we lock up the gate and go home.
