Up North Hotels Llp is based right on the first floor of number 26 on East Canal Road, or EC Road as everyone calls it here in Dehradun. It’s a busy street with a lot of noise from the cars and scooters passing by all day long. Our office isn't anything special to look at. It is just a workspace where we get the daily tasks done. We have a small group of people who handle the bookings and the maintenance schedules for the hotels. We spend a lot of time on our phones talking to staff at different locations. Sometimes the power goes out in the middle of a busy afternoon and we just have to wait for the generator to kick in. That is just life in Dehradun for you. We don’t go for any of that corporate talk or big fancy presentations. We just sit around the table and figure out what needs fixing today. Usually, it's something like a leaky tap or a broken light fixture. We know the shopkeepers on the ground floor and often go down for a quick snack or some coffee. It is a very local way of doing things. We’ve been at this address for a while and have gotten used to the rhythm of the road. Running a hotel business involves a lot of small details that people don't usually see, but we try to stay on top of it all.
