Uttar Bangla Farmers Producer Companylimited is run by Gobinda Ghosh and Bistucharan out of Khalisa. Gosanimari in Dinhata is an old place with a lot of history. We are just farmers though, and we don't worry about the history much. We mostly deal with jute and rice or whatever the season tells us to plant. Gobinda’s place is always full of people coming to ask about the seeds or the fertilizers. We do not have a big sign or a lobby. It is just a small room where the kids run around while we talk about the market prices. Dinhata is a good place to live. The soil is dark and rich if you treat it right. We worry about the floods every single year. When the river starts rising, everyone helps each other move the stock to higher ground. It is a community thing more than a business. We did not start this group to get rich. We just wanted to make sure we were not getting cheated by the middleman. Now we have this producer company, and it is a lot more work than we first thought. There are more papers to sign and more meetings to attend. But at the end of the day, we are still just farmers. We go home, wash the mud off our feet, and do it again tomorrow. The air in Gosanimari smells like wet earth and woodsmoke.
