Coochbehar Sitalkuchi Farmer Producer

Up here in Sitalkuchi, specifically in the Khalisa Mari area, we have the Coochbehar Sitalkuchi Farmer Producer. Ekramul Haque Miah helps manage the day-to-day stuff for us. Coochbehar is a beautiful part of the country, but the farming takes a lot out of you. We have long winters and the soil needs a lot of care to keep it healthy. Our group is made up of neighbors who have known each other since we were children. We decided to put our names together as a company so we could have a bit more say in how our crops are sold. We spend a lot of time walking between the different plots of land in Khalisa Mari. It’s not like we have a lot of expensive equipment. We use what we have and we work hard. Sometimes we gather at Ekramul’s place to figure out the accounts or talk about the next planting cycle. There’s a lot of talking and a lot of tea involved in our meetings. We don't try to sound like businessmen because we are farmers first. Our main goal is just to keep our farms running and make sure there’s enough for everyone at the end of the season. It’s a simple life with a lot of physical labor, but we don't mind it. We just want to do right by our land and our families in Sitalkuchi.
