Bhumi Shakti Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically just a group of us who farm the land around here in Cooch Behar. We’re located at Arati Sarkar’s place in Chhatsingimari, near Patlakhawa. It isn't a fancy setup. We don't have a big office with air conditioning or a receptionist. It’s usually just us sitting around talking about the crops and the weather. We decided to come together as a producer company because it was getting harder to handle everything on our own. When you’re just one farmer, it’s tough to get a fair price or buy what you need without spending too much. By working as a group, we can help each other out a bit more. Most of us have lived in the Cooch Behar II area our whole lives. We know the soil here and we know how the rains behave, for better or worse. We aren't trying to be some huge corporation. We’re just trying to make sure the people in our community can keep their farms going. You’ll mostly find us out in the fields or near Judhirstir Sarkar’s house if we have a meeting. We don't have any slick marketing or big promises. We just work hard and try to do things the right way. It’s not always perfect, and we have our share of bad days, but we keep at it because this is our home and our livelihood.
