Our place is in the Chamta area of Cooch Behar, right near Desbandhu Vidyalaya. It’s actually in care of Sanjit Das at the Colony Post Office. We are quite easy to find if you are near the school. Chamta Farmers Producer Company Limited is made up of people from this neighborhood and the surrounding villages. It’s a very local thing. We don’t have any big investors or corporate backing; it’s just our own time and effort. The office is basically a room where we can sit down and talk without the sun beating down on us. We spend a lot of time discussing the prices of vegetables and how the market is looking in Koch Bihar. Sometimes the discussions get a bit heated, but that’s just because everyone cares about their livelihood. We have an old computer that works most of the time, and we use it to keep track of the members. The atmosphere is very casual. You might find some kids playing nearby or someone’s dog sleeping by the door. We don't try to look more important than we are. We are just farmers who want to make sure we don't get a bad deal when it's time to sell.
