Karuna Foods

You can find Karuna Foods over at 250 Variety Hall Road. It’s a busy street and our place is always humming with activity. We’ve been here for a good while, handling different kinds of food products. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the smell—it’s a mix of different grains and maybe some spices we’ve got in stock. We do a lot of the weighing and bagging right here in the back area. The front is just a simple counter and a couple of old chairs for customers who want to sit and talk. We don't have any shiny signs or big advertisements. Most people know us just because we’ve been on this road for so long. Our staff is like a small family. We’ve got a couple of guys who have been lifting sacks here since they were teenagers. It’s hard work, especially when the weather gets humid, but we keep the fans going. Sometimes the delivery vans block the entrance, and we have to spend half the morning moving things around. It’s just part of the daily routine. We use an old calculator and a big notebook to keep track of what goes out. It’s a very simple way of doing things, but it works for us and our customers seem happy enough.
