Swastik Marbles

Our yard is located at Plot H1-147 in the Riico Industrial Area over in Chanderiya, specifically the Takri extension part. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here but this is where all the marble work happens. We have slabs stacked high all over the place. It’s not the cleanest environment with all the slurry and stone dust, but it’s where we work. My cousin and I took over the running of this place a few years back. We aren't corporate types; we spend most of our time in our work clothes. The machines for polishing the stone can be temperamental sometimes. We spend a lot of time checking the finish on each piece to make sure it looks okay. It’s heavy work and my back usually aches by the end of the shift. We get customers coming in from all over looking for something specific for their homes. We don’t have a fancy sales pitch, we just show them what’s in the yard today. The sun hits the stone in the afternoon and you can really see the colors then. We keep a small office in the corner where we handle the bills and eat our lunch. It's a loud place because of the nearby factories, but we’re used to it. We just want to get the stone out the door and move on to the next block. It takes patience to deal with stone, especially when a piece cracks right at the end of polishing.
