Kendriya Vidyalaya

Kendriya Vidyalaya here in Chikmagalur is situated on the Diet Building Campus in Ramanahalli. It’s a bit of a drive from the main town center, but the air is a lot fresher out here near the hills. We have a lot of space, which is nice because the kids have plenty of room to run around during their physical education classes. The buildings are the standard government style, solid and functional. We don't have any flashy decorations on the walls, just some charts the students made and maybe a map of India pinned up. The staff comes from different parts of the country since it’s a central school, so you hear a lot of different languages in the staff room. Every morning starts with the assembly out on the ground, and if it’s raining, which it often does in Chikmagalur, we move everything to the corridors. The desks and benches have seen better days, but they serve their purpose just fine for the students. We have a library that’s a bit cramped, but the kids seem to like the old storybooks we keep there. It’s a quiet life out here on the campus. We focus on the daily schedule and making sure the children get their midday meals and their lessons on time. It is a straightforward place for education without any of the extra bells and whistles you see in the newer private schools in the city.
